When clients ask what to wear for beach pictures, my goal is always to create something that feels cohesive, timeless, and true to their family – especially when they already have artwork displayed in their home. Molly is going to be doing this session at the end of April, so we wanted to take advantage of what stores have available now in their spring/summer drops – there were so many gorgeous options, it was almost overwhelming (which is why we’re here to help – wink wink!).
For this particular family, we were planning a new session to live alongside images from a session we photographed a couple years ago in Inlet Beach. In their previous portraits, their girls wore soft pink dresses with a palette centered around pinks and neutrals. Those images are already part of their home, so it was important that this new session felt connected without looking identical.
For this mood board, I kept pink as a foundation to maintain that visual continuity, but introduced soft blues and additional neutrals to bring in a fresh, coastal feel – and to create a natural way to style their little guy within the palette. The result is a look that feels cohesive on the wall, while still giving this session its own identity.
When planning outfits, I’m always thinking beyond just one day. These images are meant to live in your home, often alongside previous sessions, so the goal is to create something that layers beautifully over time.
If you’re wondering what to wear for beach pictures, think in terms of a color story rather than matching outfits – and don’t be afraid to build on what you already love. The images in this moodboard are linked straight to the stores where I found them – you can download the moodboard with links here!
