Yummy omelette breakfasts, adventures around town and a cranky toddler whose sleep schedule had been thrown out the window characterize last weekends wonderful whirlwind trip to San Antonio!
It was Isla’s first time on an airplane, and even though I was incredibly nervous, she was such a trooper! She slept the whole first flight and half of the second, so I don’t really know why I was worried! It looks like mommy has a new travel buddy 😉 (I had a secret weapon in my back pocket in case she didn’t cooperate- my sweet friend Shelbie from Seeking the Sea did the hard work and compiled some tips for flying with a toddler!)
We started our trip slow, sharing some omelettes in Taylor’s (gorgeous!) kitchen before heading downtown. We started out at the Alamo…and y’all, I hate to disappoint, but it is small! I would say that if you are into history (like my nerdy self), it’s still a must-see. We walked from there to the Riverwalk, and ate at Rita’s. Spicy food is about the only kind of food I don’t love, so Tay laughed as I whimpered through my “spicy” dish. Being serenaded by the mariachi band made it totally worth the heartburn though!
That evening, after heading home for a much-need nap, we ventured with Taylor and her hubby, Aaron, to the Japanese Tea Gardens to take their maternity pictures! It is the most beautiful, unique garden tucked right in the middle of SA. A couple of gentlemen were kind enough to gift Isla with a slice of bread to feed the duckies, and she was all about it! But most of the time, she was content to carry my Expodisc holder around her neck as her pretend “pamera,” telling everyone and everything around her to “Say cheeeeese!!”. What can I say- she’s a photographer’s daughter!
The most magic happened the next morning at the farmers market. I had never actually been to a farmers market, so it was such a fun experience! The atmosphere was kind of hipster and just so fun! Plus, Isla could’ve stayed there all day sipping peach lemonade and petting all the puppies!
But alas, we had other plans for her. We headed over to the zoo, and let her enjoy a ride on the “choo choo pain” before heading to see the animals. I think her favorite was the butterfly house- she was amazed to be so close to so many butterflies!
That evening, we enjoyed a baby shower cookout for Tay at their home. Taylor and Aaron are expecting sweet baby Coralie in August, and I couldn’t be more excited! It warmed my heart to see my best friend being loved so well by her friends in Texas. You see, Taylor is the type of person who is loved by everyone she comes in contact with. And it showed! Everyone there so graciously showered them with love and all the things adorable, tiny and pink!!
It hurt my heart to have to leave my sweet friends behind in Texas, but seeing their local support system made it more bearable- I know they’ll be well taken care of when baby Cora arrives! I’m counting the days until I get to see her again and squish baby girl’s cheeks!!
I just love traveling and am looking forward to sharing more of my travels with you, friend!
Xoxo
