Two lines. Those two lines are the best news you’ll ever receive! You may be dancing in praise over this answered prayer, you may be shocked it’s finally happening, you may be cautiously optimistic and completely overwhelmed, you may be ohh so happy, or even a little sad…but one thing is for certain: the love of your life will be here in 9 months. You wait patiently, dealing with all the side effects of your growing baby. The strange cravings, the lovely morning sickness, the aching back, the sleepless nights. Your belly is stretching and growing bigger by the day, and soon you can see little kicks! You might decide to find out the gender, or you might wait for the best surprise of all time. The mirror reflects a glow you’ve never been able to achieve before- you are truly stunning. You will never forget the way you felt while you were pregnant, and although you think you might want to forget the way you looked, you won’t. But, inevitably, without pictures you will.
Nine months. Nine months, and he’s finally here! He couldn’t be more perfect. Those tiny toes, his little button nose, his innocent, big eyes, those rosebud lips. His new smell is intoxicating, his tiny little coos fill your ears with pure joy. You can’t believe that he is actually yours! Your husband is beside himself with love and concern as he ensures the car seat is secure before driving your new family home. Your precious baby barely fits into the outfit you couldn’t wait to put him in. Those first few nights are challenging, to be sure – didn’t you just feed him?! But those intimate days are the best of days. You will never forget the way that he made you feel as a first time mama, and you certainly never want to forget how he looked. But, inevitably, without pictures you will.
Six short months have flown by. They’ve been filled with long loonnggg days, but you wouldn’t trade them for the world. Your munchkin looks to you for security as he begins to explore his newfound environment. Independent sitting, scooting, crawling and rolling around like he was just made for this. He’s popped some teeth and lets you know how he feels about it! The next size of diapers is right around the corner, and you’re wondering why in the world you didn’t invest stock in Pampers. You’re still tired but your little man is almost sleeping through the night consistently now. You love taking him on walks and to see new things outside. Oh, the joyous days! You will never forget the moments shared with your sweet growing baby, and you never want to forget those chubby cheeked dimples. But, inevitably, without pictures you will.
One. One whole year has passed, and your baby is just a little bigger now…okay, maybe a lot bigger. But he will always be your baby. Independent as they come, your baby waddles around with feet spread wide, arms in the air for stability. He loves “helping” you with everything, and even though it’s messier and crazier, you don’t want to do it without his help. You’re having less say over what toys he plays with because he can choose his own. Nighttime stories are becoming prolonged as your baby develops his reading skills. You wonder if it would be the right time to try for another, because, well snuggles just aren’t the same with you big boy now. You will never forget his first steps, and you never want to forget how he looks at you proudly after flinging water all over the bathroom mirror. But, inevitably, without pictures you will.
