Your little one is growing faster than you ever expected and it’s important to preserve it all. A really fun way to commemorate a one year milestone, is a cake smash session! Our approach to cake smash sessions are pure and authentic reactions to some delicious sugary goodness. However there are a few suggestions we have to make your session a huge success. First – the prep before your session!
We believe in making your little one and their personality the star of the session – but that doesn’t mean we can’t infuse some of your personal style into the event! Our studio space, whether in Florida or Tennessee, lends itself to clean images. A timeless white cake is our go-to, but we certainly are open to dressing it up! A special cake-topper, some florals, or fruit are all great options to adorn the cake!
Before we set the cake in front of your little one, we’ll take some personality portraits of them. Once we’ve taken a few of these, you’ll change your little one into their cake smash outfit – this is where we recommend either a diaper cover or romper (or pants only for little boys).
Babies don’t always love sugar at first – crazy, right?! Anything we can do to alleviate tears ahead of time is a win-win! A great practice sweet treat is a mini cupcake from your local grocery store. They are the perfect size to get just a little mess and a taste of sugar. We’ve found that the reaction to cake is more profound when your little one recognizes it as something exciting!
It may seem counter-intuitive, but don’t let your little one come to their cake smash session on an empty belly. We don’t want your babe to be starving and grumpy – this can also make them less likely to dive into the cake!
Your baby’s cake smash session is a fast-paced event – moreso than other sessions you’ll do in their first year. The actual eating of the cake portion is typically pretty quick! It usually doesn’t take long for them to become full or bored with the cake, and that’s okay. We’ve done dozens of these sessions, and are pros at getting all of the important moments!
