Somehow, an entire year flew by, and this little guy was officially ONE! As part of their First Year Collective, this sweet family got to celebrate with a complimentary cake smash session in the studio—a fun and stress-free perk of documenting their baby’s first year with NBP. From his snuggly studio newborn session to his six-month milestone in Watercolor, every session was filled with love, laughter, and so many sweet moments. And while this wasn’t the final session in their collective (a beautiful first-year family session was still ahead!), this one was all about letting baby boy take center stage.
A Classic Start & A Fun Finish
Before diving into the cake, we started with a few timeless portraits. Dressed in a light blue romper, he gave us the sweetest smiles, showing off all that first-year charm. But then it was time to strip down to his shorts and get to the main event—the cake!
Mom planned a light baseball theme to tie into his birthday party, and let’s just say, this little guy was ready to knock it out of the park. (Or at least get frosting in every possible crevice, which is basically the same thing in the world of cake smashes.) We love how this mama incorporated a theme for her handsome little guy, without letting it overpowering him. We’re here for minimal and timeless, and this look hits the mark!
A Smash Hit
Watching a baby experience cake for the first time is like watching someone taste cookie butter after years of not knowing it existed—pure bliss, mild confusion, and then full-on obsession. He started slow, poking at the frosting, before realizing this was, in fact, his dream come true. Soon enough, he was all in, smearing icing, clapping his sticky hands, and making a glorious mess.
Cake smash sessions are truly some of my favorites—there’s just something about the unfiltered joy (and frosting-covered chaos) that makes them so special. Plus, as the free bonus session included in the First Year Collective, it’s the perfect way to celebrate the milestone of turning one!
